Preliminary exercise:
Produce the front page of a new school/college magazine, featuring a photograph of a student in a medium close-up plus some appropriately laid out text and a masthead. You also must produce a mock-up of the layout of the contents page, using a DTP program.

Main text:

The front page, contents and double page spread of a new music magazine (if done as a group task, each member of the group to produce an individual edition of the magazine, following the same house style). Maximum four members to a group.

At the beginning of the AS college year, we had to create a preliminary on two media formats; a magazine front cover with a content page for a school/college and a short film of an interview. As my actual practical coursework is going to be a music magazine, I have put my own preliminary at the right hand side. When I first started to make this, I didn't have much experience on Photoshop and I didn't really know how the program works which is why my preliminary doesn't look so good. I had a few technological issues when adding text and the images as some of them didn't add correctly which therefore led to blank areas. There was supposed to be a picture on the front cover as its background, yet I had an issue with where to save the image. As the image didn't work as it was meant to, it looks as if I only added text onto the front cover. This was the second copy as the fire one was the one

with technology errors. We had a deadline to complete this by and there wasn't enough time to retake pictures and edit the magazine pages even further. On the front cover page, we were supposed to add a picture of a student, or students, around the college almost as if it was a real published college magazine. Looking back onto both of the magazine pages, I think they would have both looked a lot better with a background colour or image present. As stated before, there should have been one on the front cover page. Although, I think there should've been a different background colour as the contents page looks quite empty. If there was a light colour, it would look better as with the background white and minimal things on the page, it looks bare.
