Planning
To start my planning, I decided that I needed to create an audition sheet. By doing this first, I would then be able to see any meetings, equipment and the location shot. I thought that it would be more appealing to actors if I presented the audition sheet this way. To make it more specific, I only included information that was needed such as what the photoshoot would be used for and how to contact me. I also wanted to keep it to the same colour scheme of my magazine to make it look more professional. I find that the font does suit my magazine and the audition banner at the top really stands out.
Once my audition sheet was sent around college via email, put around college on doors, I decided the next thing to do was to make sure I had all the resources that I needed. I first went to book the studio on my chosen date so I was certain that I could have a timeslot in which I could take my pictures without any errors. The two pictures to the left hand side is the studio I used. As I wanted to have a clear background behind my model, I decided to the the blank white wall which would benefit me later on in the editing stage. This also gave me an opportunity to be able to add anything else in the background if I decided to later on. The lights were set up so that I would have flash photography which would make the pictures look better with higher quality and a brighter image. By using the studio, I felt as though my pictures were more professional rather than using a blank wall somewhere else. The studio allowed me ehance different skills in photography which comes across in the images.
After I had sent an email around college about the auditons and placed the poster around college, I needed to book the equipment. As I was talking to pictures in the college studio, I didn't need to book the equipment out for time outside college hours. However, instead I needed to book the studio so that I had a set time where I could take the pictures without anyone else interferring or using the studio in my time. By booking this, I was then able to tell a specific time for the models to meet up and to take the pictures without interuptions.
The picture on the left hand side is for Media and Film students who want to book out equipment and it states the rules that must be followed for the equipment to be lent out to students.
After I had booked the studio and made sure I had the correct equipment, I decided to send an email and make an Adobe Excel database sheet. On the email I sent to all the volunteers, I wanted to keep it short and simple. I told them what the excel database says and to make sure that they knew when to be available for the photoshoot.
As you can see to the right hand side in a cropped image, I wanted to include the date, time room and reason of the meeting. By doing this, I had a clear view on where and when I met up with the models about my magazine. The first meeting was to see who I wanted for the model. A few people are volunteered to do this and I talked over what it would be for and how I wanted them to look. Despite having a range of models, only a few fit the look. In the end I chose the model who I thought would fit the magazine the most.
After this, we had planned again to meet up for a test photoshoot and then the real photoshoot a couple of days later. Some of the test photos are positioned at the right hand side. The first load of photos were taken without flash as the equipment wasn't working as well as it should have been. However, once I figured it out, I took some pictures with the flash on. By having the flash on in the test photoshoot, I had an idea of how I wanted my model to look in the lighting. In these few images alone, the difference the lighting made is quite significant as it gives the model a whole brighter look and more life, whereas the images without flash seem lifeless and boring standard images.
As I thought the pictures were good enough for the magazine, I told the model to dress in the exact same way as this is the type of look I wanted for my magazine and I thought it would suit the genre. By her dressing in the same way, I could potentially use the photos from the test shoot in the real product. The way she is dressed would be considered typically 'indie' at the time of production. To make sure that this would be the correct look for my model, I googled 'indie' outfits to see what came up. As you can see in the image, a lot of checkered shirts are used and shown which is why I wanted one to be the main feature for this shoot, but to stand out against the dull coloured shirt.
