The final magazine

The process of creating a magazine needs to be split into a few different sections. First there was research, which planning followed, then production and finally the completed piece. My magazine has a similar style to 'indie' and 'grunge' magazine. I didn't want to have a stereotypical teen magazine, so when I was looking for inspiration, that was the best path I wanted to take. On the front covers of 'indie' magazines, a lot of them had minimal text on the page which attracted me to them and persuaded me to have that genre as my own. I also wanted the colours to be minimal as I didn't want there to be a wide variety of colours on every page. My house style colours ended up being black and white, with red text in specific areas. However, the front cover isn't the only thing that is needed to be created. The contents page and the pages inside are just as vital. I wanted the contents page and double page spread to follow the same theme as well as the overall house style. Inside, the content relates to what my target audience; teenagers, are likely to be interested in and would prefer to read. To make my audience want to read inside, I used content such as festival line-ups and 'new artists on the scene'. In the double page spread article, I wanted to get even deeper with relating with the audience by talking about issues that they are able to relate to. For example, I wrote about how the girl in the main story has been able to follow her dreams and never give up in what they want to do in life, which people at this age are stuggling with. My overall aim for the magazine is so it is able to connect and relate with the audience so they will want to buy and read the magazine.
To see a clear full shot of each of the pages, you can see them to the left. You can rather click through the three images via slideshow, but if you click on the image then it will show each page larger which helps to read the full double page spread.

After months of working hard with multiple processes to go through, I finally finished my music magazine. Whilst looking at the three pages all together once they have been completed, I like the way it looks. It is quite easy to see by simply just looking at the different pages what house style colours I used, as well as the genre of the magazine that I wanted to achieve. One thing I am glad that I didn't do was to complete each page separately before moving onto the next one. By making changes to each page as I went along, the creating process came along a lot quicker. By doing this, I was able to change around the different colours debating on as well as the font styles I have used. For example, at first I was going to use the same font throughout as I first thought it would be a good idea. However, by putting it on each page before everything was there and finished, I was able to change around quickly and with ease. Overall, I am proud at how my music magazine has turned out. With the way my skills were lacking at the start of the AS year in the Preliminary task, I would say that I have improved vastly. This could be down to actually doing research which I didn't do before hand, but also I was able to be more creative and have more time in trying different skills out.

With each different page, I wasn't able to produce the quality it is now straight away. These three pages have changed drastically overtime by changing various features and choosing one that I am happy with. Some of the images that I have used have been switched around many times until I finally found a few that I am happy with. Although there were some points throughout creating this music magazine that I wanted to give up with, I knew that if I continued it will be at the quality that I am comfortable with and that I will be proud to submit. Another thing that I am glad I did at the start of the process was to create a basic block design of the three types of pages that I was to create. As I was happy how that layout looked, I knew that if I based my music magazine around that layout, it would look good to me. So when I had issues and became uncertain on where to place the different features that would be needed, I could look at that layout and test it with my own magazine features that have already been done.
